Context
This project is part of N’BNIOUW L’HAYAT (“Let’s build life”), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme of LafargeHolcim Morocco. Its first focus is local education through better learning facilities. Several partners joined forces to maximise its impact.
The project concerns the annex of the Al Khair cooperative, attached to the Ain Beida rural primary school in the Ras El Maa area.
A multi-stakeholder project
The follow-up visit brought together all stakeholders: the Provincial Directorate of Education of Moulay Yacoub (including the provincial director and the school principal), LafargeHolcim Morocco, the municipality of Ain Chkef, four experts from Experts Bénévoles pour le Développement, the Cultisio Club EST / USMBA and parents of pupils.
Completed works
- Two metal doors installed for the two classrooms;
- entrance gate installed;
- a classroom door recovered and reinstalled on the school toilets.
Planned works
- Replacement of 10 windows with aluminium frames;
- upgraded lighting in both classrooms;
- one street lamp in the schoolyard and another outside;
- levelling of the yard to create a sports ground;
- planting along the fence;
- if possible, a footpath from the entrance and raising the access to prevent rainwater pooling.
Decisions
The asbestos-cement roofs will not be replaced, as the education directorate plans to build two new permanent classrooms shortly. It will also build two new toilets and a sink.
This project shows how our experts connect a company committed to CSR, public authorities and the local community, from diagnosis to works supervision.
